Hull Services
Calgary area
closes in 153 days (Wed, 16 Dec)
full time

Hull Services (Hull) has been a pillar in providing mental health and behavioural support to children, youth, and families in Calgary, Alberta, and beyond, since our founding in 1962. Specializing in trauma-informed care, we work with individuals who have faced significant adversities, including developmental trauma, abuse, neglect, abandonment, and poverty. With a dedicated team of over 700 staff and an annual operating budget of approximately $54 million, Hull is a national leader in child and youth mental health services. Our services are driven by trauma and adversity-informed care (including the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics), along with a strengths-based, resilience-enhancing emphasis. We offer a range of programs that support over 8,000 individuals annually, helping them build resilience, heal from trauma, and unlock their full potential. Serving Indigenous and culturally diverse communities, we are committed to creating safe, healing environments where young people and families thrive within supportive communities. This includes a deep and ongoing commitment to building respectful, collaborative relationships with indigenous communities, including Elders and Knowledge Keepers who are connected to our work, ensuring that their guidance, wisdom and cultural perspectives meaningfully inform our practices, environments, and approaches to care. We are a CARF-certified organization.

Hull Services is seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) to provide enterprise leadership across people strategy, organizational culture, external relations, and revenue-enabling functions. This newly created role reflects Hull Services’ commitment to strengthening its internal capacity, enhancing its external influence, and ensuring the organization is positioned to sustain and grow its impact as a national leader in child and youth mental health. The CPO will play a central role in aligning Hull’s people, culture, and partnerships with its mission to build resilience in children, youth, and families.

As a transformational leader and connector, the CPO will drive the evolution and modernization of the People & Culture function while integrating communications, government relations, and fund development into a cohesive and strategic enterprise approach. This includes fostering a values-driven, high-performing culture; strengthening leadership capability and workforce resilience; and advancing a clear, compelling external voice that reflects Hull’s leadership in trauma-informed care. The CPO will also play a key role in shaping and advancing a proactive government relations strategy and a more intentional, diversified approach to fundraising and resource development.

Success in this role will require an enterprise leadership mindset, exceptional communication skills, and a deep commitment to Hull’s values and mission.  The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in human resources, business administration, communications, public affairs, or a related field, with an advanced degree and CPHR designation considered assets. They will bring extensive senior leadership and executive experience in human resources or comparable organizational leadership roles, with a proven track record of leading organizational transformation, culture change, and workforce modernization initiatives. The candidate will have experience integrating or overseeing HR, communications, government relations, and related functions, and will be skilled in developing and executing people strategies that drive organizational performance and growth.

Highly mission-driven and emotionally intelligent, the ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, resilience, and sound judgment, along with the ability to build trust, foster high-performing teams, and strengthen organizational culture and capacity. The ideal candidate will be a transformational and visionary leader who can drive organizational change and cultural evolution while fostering long-term sustainability and impact. They will be an exceptional communicator and highly relational leader, able to influence, inspire, and build trust across diverse and complex stakeholder environments. With an enterprise mindset, they will connect people, strategy, and external relationships to organizational outcomes, while bringing a builder approach to create structure, alignment, and clarity in a newly defined role. The candidate will be a collaborative, inclusive, and emotionally intelligent leader who is committed to developing individuals and teams through coaching and mentorship. They will demonstrate strong political acumen, resilience, and adaptability, enabling them to navigate ambiguity and lead effectively through change and complexity. Grounded in high integrity and a strong alignment with Hull’s mission and values, they will also be skilled in managing complex and sensitive conversations with confidence, care, and professionalism.
