Salary range:  $29.59 to $34.45 per hour 

The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) is currently providing a shift premium of $3.00 per hour in addition to the regular pay for this role. Please note that this premium is not guaranteed. Strides Toronto will continue to offer the premium only while MCCSS funding remains in place.

Strides Toronto Support Services (“Strides Toronto”) Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto’s Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. Strides Toronto also leads initiatives with broader reach, including Help Ahead and the HOPE Strategy across Toronto and One Stop Talk/Parlons Maintenant and the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker Program across Ontario.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an existing vacancy for a full-time contract Live-In Treatment Child and Youth Practitioner for the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) program. The Live-In Treatment Child and Youth Practitioner, AHT facilitates and delivers assessments, therapeutic treatment and programming, and discharge support for female identified survivors of sex trafficking and/or sexual exploitation ages 12-17. The Anti-Human Trafficking live-in treatment program environment provides supervision, support and care of children/ youth 24 hours/ day, 365 days/ year.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Provide care and supervision that supports the health and wellbeing of each client within the live in treatment environment and in their daily functioning. Each full-time staff member may be assigned as a primary care provider to a client and will support the Integrated Care Coordinator in implementing the client’s care and therapeutic plan.
• Provide support and treatment that is evidence-informed and aligned with client goals and objectives.
• Provide support and treatment that supports client mental health and wellbeing within the live-in environment and in their daily functioning.
• Organize, attend and participate in various meetings that support client’s therapeutic programming needs and enhance communication between care team members.
• Participate in the care and maintenance of a residential home and program facilities to ensure the health and safety of program participants and staff, and that meet licensing standards.
• Complete the required documentation, safety, security monitoring and administrative responsibilities to support the needs of the program and the clients and meet the requirements of the MCCSS and organization.

THE “MUST HAVES”

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role: 

• CYW/CYC Diploma or Degree required.
• A minimum of one year of experience working as a CYW/CYC with youth who have complex needs (e.g., experience supporting youth with histories of homelessness, substance use, significant trauma, and/or mental health challenges).
• Displayed competencies of self-care practices, personal/professional boundaries and growth of interpersonal skills.
• Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
• An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
• Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

• Work experience and/or lived experience related to childhood sexual exploitation, trafficking, or gender-based violence is considered an asset.
• Previous experience in a Live-in Treatment setting is considered an asset.
• Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
• Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
