20 hours per week | $33 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE   
A Facilitator of Learning (‘Environmental Educator’) is passionate about inspiring young people/students to learn about the environment, through multiple ways of knowing including Indigenous Knowledges, and to be in harmony with lands, waters, and beings. 

Based in the Capital Regional District (Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay, Sooke, Metchosin, Highlands, Juan de Fuca, etc.), you will join the Education Team to improve and deliver place-based education programs for K-12 students, acting as a public-facing representative of Sierra Club BC. You will be required to travel across different school districts and municipalities of the Capital Regional District for this position. You may also be asked to travel to different regions of Vancouver Island outside of the Capital Regional District. You will also engage in pre- and post-program email communication with educators to support them in engaging with SCBC’s educational resources and programming. You will be responsive to the advice and counsel of the Education Program Manager, as well as colleagues within other departments of SCBC. You will collaborate most closely with other Facilitators of Learning and the Education Program Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES   
Please note: We encourage applicants who, while not being able to handle all these responsibilities from day one, can demonstrate they have the potential to grow into all of them. We commit to creating an environment that will support such growth. 

• Lead our K-12 programs for students and educators. This entails travelling to schools to deliver place-based workshops in the Capital Regional District.  

• Improve and expand upon SCBC’s programming and resources, in collaboration with the Educator Program Manager. This involves working collaboratively to create and develop new workshops, educational materials, as well as in-person and virtual events.  

• Provide pre- and post-program support with schools and educators. 

• Network, communicate, and collaborate with community partners including schools, school districts, climate action networks/groups, Indigenous leaders, and/or other non-profit organizations.  

• Adhere to organizational policies and practices (e.g. submitting expense forms).  

• Support facilitation of learning happening internally at SCBC. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 

• Energetic and self-starter, who can convey optimism and inspire action while acknowledging challenging realities of intersectional environmental issues.  

• Experience with youth-centered, education-related work. 

• Highly organized, adaptable, and able to develop an effective system of time management and task prioritization. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with both youth and adults. 

• Experienced in engaging with and developing educational materials and curriculum (specific knowledge of the BC school curriculum is an asset).  

• Awareness of and curiosity about environmental issues, climate science and policy, sustainability, and social justice.  

• Direct experience with and/or understanding of Indigenous knowledges and worldviews.  

• Able to use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), video conference platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and Canva are assets.  

• Access to a vehicle/transportation is an asset.  

• Experience working with learners from a variety of cultural backgrounds and communities, for whom English may not be their only language.  

COMPENSATION   

• This is a part-time contract position (20 hours per week) starting September 2026 and ending June 2027. There is a possibility of contract renewal dependent upon funding and organizational capacity. 

• The pay rate is $33.00 per hour.
