The LINC Communication Class is a program to teach newcomers English with an emphasis on practical communication skills.
This is a part-time contract position, scheduled to work 6 hours per week on
Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Classes are delivered online.
DUTIES
• Facilitate engaging English language conversation classes for adult newcomers in a LINC program, focusing on the development of speaking, listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Provide synchronous and asynchronous online instruction using virtual conferencing tools, language learning software, and MS programs.
• Develop and adapt level-appropriate conversation topics, activities, and learning materials aligned with the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012.
• Integrate online resources, Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Avenue.ca, and other digital delivery tools in language instruction.
• Conduct ongoing needs assessments with learners, assist them in setting learning goals, and develop lessons accordingly.
• Facilitate discussions, group activities, and interactive learning opportunities that encourage learner participation, confidence, and fluency.
• Provide informal feedback and language support to learners to encourage continuous improvement in communication skills.
• Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Valid TESL Ontario / OCELT certificate from TESL Ontario.
• Minimum two years’ experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in teaching CLB levels 1 to 3.
• In-depth understanding of and experience using the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012 and the LINC Curriculum Guidelines.
• Proficient in the application of Zoom, MS Teams, MS Office Programs, and online resources in delivery.
• Ability to adapt teaching methodology to individual learners' needs/skill levels.
• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.
• Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Completion of Introduction to PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) and Avenue.ca Stage 2 training is an asset.

START DATE: November 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027
SALARY RANGE: $42.40 per hour
