PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

To develop, implement and evaluate community food programming that improves food skills, food literacy and confidence, work collaboratively with partner organizations to plan and deliver programming, and to work with and supervise volunteers. To provide general support for overall site coordination at the East End Food Hub.

 

THE CANDIDATE

We are looking for a community-minded food advocate who combines hands-on food skills with strong organizational and leadership abilities. You are passionate about food and food security, education, and fostering inclusive community spaces, and able to translate your knowledge of nutrition, safe food handling, cooking techniques, and sustainable food systems into engaging, accessible programming for diverse audiences. With excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, you can co-plan and maintain strong working relationships with partner organizations and help support the daily operational logistics of a busy food hub.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Administrative

  • Oversee program scheduling, registration and logistics
  • Support the facility booking process
  • Secure supplies and equipment needed for programming within budget limits
  • Maintain a program log, statistics and other written records as required
  • Orient and supervise volunteers and placement students
  • Act as the Centre’s representative at meetings about community food programming 
  • Attend all required meetings, training and professional events
  • Communicate and implement information and requests from management to volunteers and students 
  • Support communications, including newsletters, websites and social media, by providing content and facilitating distribution as required.   

 

Programming

  • Coordinate and deliver community food programs
  • Ensure the provision of flexible, inclusive, enriching age-appropriate programming
  • Ensure clean, safe and healthy program space, equipment and supplies
  • Facilitate and support client participation
  • Provide program participants with guidance, informal counselling, referrals as required
  • Support the development and implementation of additional programs by providing consultation, information, materials, guidance and mentorship
  • Work with the Program Director and program partners to establish and apply appropriate guidelines for community food programs 

 

Community

  • Cultivate an understanding of the community, its resources and needs by speaking to residents and providers regularly, and to support program planning to meet those needs
  • Stay informed on trends and issues relevant to community food programming
  • Provide resources and information to members of the community according to their needs

 

Partnership

  • Maintain strong working relationships with the core Food Hub partners - The Leslieville Farmers’ Market, East End United Regional Ministry and it’s Nourish East End program.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple program partners to plan and deliver programming, and to inform the development of new programs and services
  • Engage and meet with other providers whose work relates to community kitchen programming
  • Support development of new partnerships that support community food programs
  • Collaborate with onsite partners in maintaining space sharing and storage systems.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

•         Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. community development, social services, food security) or equivalent combination of education and experience

•         Minimum 3 years experience in community food programs in a non-profit environment

•         Knowledge of issues of food access and justice, and of food safety and basic nutrition.

•         Excellent program development, management, planning, and implementation skills.

•         Strong understanding of program evaluation and experience with data banagement.  

•         Direct experience providing direction to and supervising volunteers and students.

•         Experience in developing, managing and sustaining community partnerships.

•         Excellent networking, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

•         Experience working with diverse community partner organizations.

•         Demonstrated organizational, leadership, administrative and team building skills.

•         Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn other technology solutions.

•         Relationship management skills, ability to consult and collaborate effectively.

•         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

•         Demonstrated initiative, creativity and flexibility.

•         Ability to anticipate, trouble shoot and find solutions to problems.

•         Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills, with commitment to accuracy and quality.

•         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with internal and external partners.

•         Ability and experience with juggling multiple tasks, including when under pressure.

•         Experience in a multi-cultural community with a variety of socio-economic levels, with demonstrated capacity to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty.

•         Understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and commitment to cultivating respectful and inclusive work and program environments.

Assets

  • Experience in organizing and facilitating events and workshops.
  • Current Emergency or Standard First Aid /C.P.R. certification.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Position Status: Part Time Contract ending March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension or transition to a permanent role

Hours per Week: 20 hours per week

Hours of Work: 3-4 days per week on weekdays (excluding Wednesdays) with occasional evening and weekend shifts

Union Status: Union Position - CUPE Local 2998 – Wage Grade 9

Starting Hourly Rate: $29.36 (range $29.36 - $34.00)

Benefits: Eligible to enrol in health, dental, life and disability benefits after completing probation; Eligible to enrol in OMERS pension plan from day one

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Onsite, with no opportunity for remote work
