Job Title : Youth Leadership Program Coordinator

Based at : Camp Hope

Reports to : Program Manager

Hours of work : 4 Month Paid Position – May to August

Salary : $1800 per Month* - room and board included

Start date : May 6th, 2024

Status : Contract Position: ending August 23rd, 2024

OUR FACILITY

Camp Hope is located on 100 acres of forest 20 minutes west of Calgary along the Elbow River. We offer 6-day overnight camps for children and youth ages 6-17. The camp is rustic with campers and staff staying in tipis. Junior and intermediate camps are offered as well as a Youth Leadership Training program for ages 13-17.

Job Summary:

Plan and implement the Youth Camp Program (week long camp ages 13-17), including Bible studies, wide games, and camp activities (archery, rock climbing etc.). Provide oversight, support, and leadership to Youth Camp Counsellors and campers.

  • Positive Outlook: ability to engage in regular physical activity (running, rock climbing, etc.) and make camp activities fun and exciting
  • Flexibility: ready and willing to adapt and serve as needed given the ever-changing demands of summer camp ministry.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

May-June:

  • Plan, organize, prepare, and pioneer all aspects of Youth Program/Activities
  • Plan and prepare devotionals, Bible studies for Youth Camp/Crew
  • Participation in Staff Development/Meetings o Administrative duties as assigned/required
  • Cleaning duties on team rotation with other staff

July-August:

  • Execute and coordinate all aspects of Youth Program/Activities
  • Supervision and oversight of Youth Camp Counsellors
  • Lead, facilitate devotionals and Bible studies for Youth Camp
  • Sleep in tipis with Youth Counsellors and Campers
  • Participate in camp-wide activities (wide games, chapel, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with underprivileged youth and families in any setting. 
  • Degree in youth work, ministry, or outdoor recreation an asset
  • Camp ministry, outdoor recreation, and leadership experience an asset
  • Class 5 driver's license an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures. 

*Every returning staff member receives $200 per month raise. All staff that complete the full 7 weeks of camp and 2 weeks of training receive a $1000 bonus at the end of the summer
