Big Sisters Mentoring Program (ongoing intakes)

The Big Sisters mentoring program matches self-identifying girls, non-binary, transgender and gender-diverse youth (aged 7-17) with a trusted adult mentor in a 1:1 mentoring relationship.

For at least one year, Big and Little matches meet for 2-4 hours each week. Every match is different, with participants enjoying a wide variety of activities which can include making crafts, attending sports events, watching movies or just spending time talking together!

Volunteer mentors must be 19 years of age or older, complete a criminal record check and provide references before taking part. All mentors are trained in child safety best practices following an initial screening and monitored by our professional staff throughout their involvement with the program.

The key benefits of the Big Sisters program for girls and gender-diverse youth:

  • Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Development of leadership skills and independence
  • Better educational outcomes and healthier relationships with family and peers

Mentors provide support, connection and a positive role model to youth; helping them to have fun while understanding and realizing their full potential.
