Position: Virtual Volunteer Project Manager (Sustainability Team)

Role Description:

As a Project Manager - Sustainability Practices, you will lead the development and execution of DEFEND’s sustainability strategies. Your role will focus on creating and implementing policies, initiatives, and projects that minimize the organization's environmental impact while aligning with our core mission of fostering a safer and healthier world. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for sustainability and a desire to contribute to meaningful change through innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Managing the overall direction of the organization's sustainability efforts, including setting goals and measuring progress.

  • Develop sustainable organizational policies and practices.

  • Develop or execute strategies to address energy use, resource conservation, recycling, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design.

  • Research and identify environmental sustainability issues, concerns, or stakeholder interests.

  • Develop, or oversee the development of marketing or outreach media for sustainability projects or events.

  • Review sustainability program objectives, progress, or status to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulations, or laws.

  • Conduct sustainability or environment-related risk assessments

  • Write and distribute environmental impact reports.

  • Identify creative ways the organization can balance core business obligations to respect, support, and improve local and global environments.

  • Conducts research to identify environmental and sustainability concerns, interests, and issues.

  • Maintains current working knowledge of and ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and internal environmental laws and regulations.

  • Identifies and facilitates training as needed.

  • Monitoring industry trends related to sustainability to identify future opportunities for growth or risk areas that may require mitigation efforts

 

Applicable Skills/Abilities

 

  • Good knowledge of sustainability practices and applicable laws and regulations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to analyze and understand research and to identify relevant and valuable information.
