Organization: DEFEND (Nonprofit) and 65square 

Position: Team Leads are responsible for the overall direction and goals of the team and addressing DEFEND's tech needs. This may include development of our website and working with our other teams for their needs. Leads will be responsible for running meetings, reporting to DEFEND on Team progress and working out issues. Supporting team members will fill various roles and will undertake specific tasks and perform research before producing results!

Location: Remote (Weekly Zoom Meetings)  

About Us: 

DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.

Role Description: 

The Tech Team Lead & Support will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of our organization’s website. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to our mission. The ideal candidate will work closely with other team members, stakeholders, and volunteers to ensure that our website effectively communicates our goals and engages our audience.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead a team of developers, designers, and volunteers in the creation and maintenance of the website.

  • Coordinate project timelines, assign tasks, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.

  • Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss project updates, challenges, and solutions.

Technical Development:

  • Oversee the design and development of user-friendly web interfaces that align with best practices in usability and accessibility.

  • Ensure the website is optimized for performance across various devices and browsers.

  • Implement content management systems (CMS) that allow non-technical staff to update website content easily.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Work closely with organizational leaders to understand their needs for web functionality and design.

  • Gather feedback from users (staff, volunteers, beneficiaries) to improve website features.

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to integrate branding strategies into web design.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Monitor website performance using analytics tools; provide regular reports on traffic patterns and user engagement.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise; provide timely support for users experiencing difficulties with the site.

  • Stay updated on emerging web technologies and trends; recommend improvements or upgrades as necessary.

Training and Documentation:

  • Develop training materials for staff on how to use the CMS effectively.

  • Create comprehensive documentation for all processes related to website management.

Budget Management:

  • Assist in budget planning for technology-related expenses associated with website development.

  • Identify cost-effective solutions that align with organizational goals without compromising quality

Qualifications:

  • MUST be 18 years and above.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Proven experience in leading web development projects; familiarity with the non-profit sector preferred.

  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS/JavaScript; experience with popular CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress).

  • Strong understanding of SEO principles and best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience working collaboratively within diverse teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., MySQL).

  • Experience in digital marketing strategies including social media integration.
