Profile

The Director of Advocacy provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for Canadians For A Civil Society, ensuring the organization effectively advocates for a more just and equitable society. This role requires a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with a deep understanding of Canadian social and political issues, strong advocacy experience, and exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide organizational leadership and advice. 

  • Formulate and oversee policies and procedures. 

  • Adopt, review and fulfill strategic initiatives. 

  • Determine, regularly evaluate and monitor the organization’s programs and services.

  • Attend all Board of Director meetings.

  • Provide oversight of the board, committees, management and others involved in the governance, leadership and administration of the organization business, finances and programs. 

  • Evaluate committee structure to meet current and future organizational needs.

  • Submit semi-annual reports pertaining to activities within the respective committees of the organization. 

  • Ensure necessary resources for the health and development of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Preferred but not required - Bachelor's or Master's degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related field preferred. OR
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in advocacy, policy development, or a related field within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven track record of successful advocacy campaigns and policy wins.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian political and social issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for social justice and a commitment to building a more equitable society.
