Profile
The Director of Finance (Treasurer) plays a crucial role in the financial health and stability of Canadians For A Civil Society. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced financial professional with strong accounting, analytical, and leadership skills. The Director of Finance will provide sound financial guidance to the Board of Directors and staff, ensuring the organization's financial sustainability and compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight:
Oversee the organization's accounting and financial reporting.
Ensure accurate and timely financial record-keeping.
Monitor cash flow and ensure the organization maintains sufficient reserves.
Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
Review and approve financial transactions.
Budgeting and Planning:
Assist in the development and implementation of the annual budget.
Monitor budget performance and identify any potential variances.
Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and fundraising strategies.
Financial Controls:
Implement and maintain sound internal financial controls.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including tax laws and AGLC policies.
Oversee the organization's banking relationships.
Fundraising Support:
Provide financial guidance to fundraising activities.
Assist in the development of grant proposals and financial reports for funders.
Board Governance:
Advise the Board of Directors on all financial matters.
Ensure the Board is informed of the organization's financial status.
Participate actively in Board meetings and contribute to overall organizational decision-making.
Other Duties as Required:
Assist with the preparation of financial documents for audits and reviews.
Maintain professional relationships with auditors, bankers, and other financial professionals.
Stay informed of relevant financial regulations and best practices.
Qualifications
Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field.
Strong understanding of non-profit financial principles and best practices.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
