Opportunity: Social Media Assistant
Position Type: Temporary volunteer (6 months), with potential for extension. Approx 5-10 hours/month.

Founded in 2014, the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta (EDSNA) is a charitable organization providing support to individuals dealing with eating disorders, as well as their caregivers, in the province of Alberta. EDSNA is committed to inspiring hope, reducing stigma, raising awareness, building connections, and offering meaningful support at all stages of recovery
About the Role
EDSNA is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a volunteer Social Media Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in a collaborative environment made up of both staff and volunteers.
Reporting primarily to the Director of Awareness & Outreach—with occasional direct communication with the Executive Director—the Social Media Assistant will play a key role in supporting EDSNA’s outreach efforts. Responsibilities include sourcing and writing content for our social media platforms, crafting image descriptions, assisting with visual content creation, and supporting campaigns such as Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW). We’re looking for a motivated self-starter who thrives in a team setting and is eager to take initiative and dive into a variety of tasks.
Responsibilities include:
Creating or compiling content for EDSNA social media channels
Drafting original captions and descriptions to accompany images
Reviewing analytics of social media campaigns in order to make recommendations and strategic adjustments
General assistance advertising EDSNA programming and public awareness initiatives (eg. completing administrative duties; initiating and/or participating in planning and strategy discussions)
Upholding the confidentiality of sensitive personal and Society information as per applicable Privacy Laws. This includes keeping confidential information locked when not in use or not present, and ensuring proper authorization has been granted prior to the release of any confidential information to a third party
Adherence to EDSNA’s commitment to ensure no one in Alberta faces an eating disorder alone
You might be who we’re looking for if..
You have a strong understanding of eating disorders, mental health, and the diversity of each, including concepts like self-compassion, self-care, and body neutrality
You are committed to continued learning about the diversity of disordered eating, and understand your personal role in supporting accessible care
You have experience in communications and/or digital media, and are comfortable creating content around a sensitive topic
You have worked with the apps and platforms we use regularly-- GSuite, Meta platforms, TikTok, Canva, Wordpress-- but are willing to learn/expand knowledge as needed/required by EDSNA
You understand the nature of volunteering within a very small team-- we might need you to jump in to assist with duties beyond the job description to ensure work is completed (within reason)
You would describe yourself as a self-starter, self-motivated, and are able to work independently, You always act with integrity and maintain a positive attitude
You pride yourself on your excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong command of English is a necessity, but a secondary language is an asset!
Can commit to a minimum of one virtual meeting per month, creation of one post a week, and any email communication required in between
Bonus: You’ve got some experience collecting data, reviewing analytics, and possibly even some experience with reporting your findings
