Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to providing a safe environment for Black engineers where they can aspire and become the best version of themselves. We empower and support the Black engineering community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, improving living conditions, and promoting better mental health. We achieve this through strong mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts. We are committed to mobilizing all our human and financial resources to create a stronger and more inclusive community.

The Position

We are seeking a Partnership Champion – Quebec (Volunteer) who will take on key responsibilities by dedicating 10–12 hours per week to volunteering.

The Partnership Champion – Montreal (Volunteer) plays the role of a strategic ambassador by identifying, cultivating, and supporting partnerships that advance the organization’s mission. This role focuses on building relationships with corporate partners, government departments, community organizations, foundations, and stakeholders to strengthen the organization’s impact, sustainability, and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership Development and Relationship Building

  • Identify government ministries/programs and potential institutional partners aligned with the organization’s mission and values.

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with potential partners through outreach, introductions, and networking.

  • Support the development of mutually beneficial partnership opportunities (financial, in-kind, or strategic).

  • Achieve regional/location targets for establishing successful partnerships and signing funding agreements within the agreed cycle period.

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

  • Act as an ambassador for the organization at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities.

  • Represent the organization professionally and consistently in external communications.

  • Build long-term relationships that support trust, credibility, and collaboration.

Internal Collaboration and Support

  • Work closely with leadership, board members, and staff to align partnership efforts with organizational priorities.

  • Share insights, contacts, and opportunities with the internal team.

  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving external partners.

Partnership Strategy and Growth

  • Contribute ideas and perspectives to strengthen the organization’s partnership strategy.

  • Help identify trends, opportunities, and best practices in partnership development within the non-profit sector.

  • Help prioritize high-impact partnership opportunities.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain basic records of partnership contacts and engagement activities within BEC’s CRM system.

  • Provide weekly updates on outreach efforts, discussions, and partnership progress.

  • Support the management and follow-up with existing partners.

Qualifications

  • Interest in supporting community, social, or charitable initiatives.

  • Experience or interest in business development, partnerships, fundraising, sales, marketing, or community engagement.

  • A degree or experience in engineering is considered an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Comfortable engaging in conversations and building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Alignment with the organization’s mission and values.

  • Ability to act professionally and ethically as a representative of the organization.
