Server Position

The James Bay Community School Centre & Jesse’s Place find ourselves looking for a few new Plate
Slingers.
If you are a high school student, retired or someone who just has some extra time on their hands,
we're looking for motivated Servers to join our team of caring and sharing volunteers.
Jesses Place Café is located in the James Bay Community School Centre. We can be found throwing
down scrumptious meals twice a week to a lovely bunch of hungry senior’s.  We strive to create an
environment where “everyone knows your name”, and find that it is time to add some servers to our
dedicated crew.
To excel in this position, we are looking for someone who gives smiles away for free, has a willingness
to meet guests' needs quickly and politely, can pour a bit of upbeat sass into a cup of coffee or tea
and can keep their cool in the crazy moments.  Sort of like a truck stop diner but without the
truckers.  Actually, we may even have a few of those at our tables.
Our servers work short shifts (typically 2.5 hours), which allows you to schedule your shifts around
school/grandchildren/coffee dates, work obligations, homework etc. In return, we ask you to arrive
on time, smile for our customers, pass out the plates and clean it all up.  Kind of like home, just for
more people and with a great team working together to get-er-done!
Schedules are booked a month at a time with shifts being once or twice a week, or scattered
throughout the month, whatever works within your life’s schedule.
Server Job Duties:
• Setting Tables
• Serving Meals/Tea/Coffee
• Clearing Dishes
• Clearing Tables
• Putting Condiment’s/Napkin Dispenser’s/Table Cloth’s Away
• Working Together for General Clean Up

Dishwasher Position
The James Bay Community School Centre is looking for a ceramic/flatware
sanitation technician volunteer for our 55+ dinners.
Our fabulous cook does a great job of cooking up a mess of pots and pans and we
are seeking a qualified or not so qualified sudsbuster to plunge in clean it all up.
We serve dinner to a group of happy diners twice a week and though some have
been known to lick their plates clean, we do find that a bit of soap and a run
through the sanitizer between uses is essential to the health and safety of all.
The pit technician is responsible for not only the cleanliness of all dishes, but
should be good at puzzle solving as well.  We do find, that our amazing cook
prefers to not go on a scavenger hunt for her cooking supplies when everything
has been put away in a new hiding spot.  So figuring out what’s behind cupboards
and drawers will be essential to a happy cook.
Of course we know that hot soapy water and clean hands are not all that it will
take to entice you to join our wonderful group of volunteers for these dinners, so
our cook ensures that you get a tasty meal to take home at the end of your
shift.
Our goal is to create an environment where “everyone knows your name”, but also
understands that they are a valued member of our team.
