About Brain Care Centre (BCC) 

Brain Care Centre is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting individuals impacted by acquired brain injury. Through client‑centred services, advocacy, and community connection, BCC empowers clients to gain the skills, confidence, and independence needed to live meaningful lives after brain injury. Our work is grounded in compassion, dignity, and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Role Overview

Board Members play a critical governance role in advancing BCC’s mission. As a member of the Board of Directors, you will contribute your expertise, strategic thinking, and passion for the cause to ensure the organization’s long‑term sustainability and impact. This is an excellent opportunity for leaders who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals living with acquired brain injury.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Strategic Leadership

  • Provide oversight of BCC’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Participate in quarterly Board meetings and an annual strategic planning session.
  • Review and approve organizational policies, annual budgets, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and fiduciary responsibilities.

Committee Participation

  • Actively serve on at least one Board committee (e.g., Finance, Governance, Fund Development).
  • Contribute to committee goals, discussions, and deliverables.

Advocacy & Community Ambassadorship

  • Champion BCC’s mission within your networks and the broader community.
  • Support efforts to strengthen partnerships, visibility, and community engagement.

Fund Development & Resource Support

  • Participate in fundraising activities and support donor stewardship.
  • Leverage personal and professional networks to advance BCC’s financial sustainability.

Skills & Experience

While all individuals with a passion for BCC’s mission are encouraged to apply, the Board is particularly seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:  finances (CPA preferred) and resource development.

Additional attributes include:

  • Previous experience serving on a governance Board of Directors
  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance best practices
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills

  • Quarterly Board meetings in Edmonton (typically 90 minutes each)
  • Annual strategic planning session (one to two days)
  • Committee meetings (bi-monthly to quarterly)
  • Preparation time for reviewing materials and contributing to discussions
