About York West Active Living Centre (YWALC)

York West Active Living Centre is a not for profit organization that enriches the lives of adults 55 plus. YWALC encourage and support healthy, independent living through a wide range of health and wellness programs, educational workshops, and multicultural activities.

We are looking for an English Teacher Volunteer who can teach basic English to Spanish speaking older adults. 

Classes are every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 - 11:00 AM

Socials every Thursday 11:00 - 12:30 PM

Role Responsibility

• Set up program base on the needs of the group
• Oversee and implement activities for the group
• Encourage interaction and fun learning environment for the group
• Initiate socialization activities to practice what they learned 
• Secure attendance of the group

Requirements

The volunteer is required to:

• Have excellent communication skills, fluent in English and Spanish
• Enjoy working with older adults
• Provide creative methods in teaching and able to resource information
• Offers practical and relatable way of learning 
• Good listener and adaptable
• Computer literate
• Reliable, punctual, responsible, and professional

The position involves teaching languages to older adults who are eager to enhance their English speaking skills.
