POSITION: Volunteer Coordinator — People Against Littering (P.A.L.)
Location: Brampton, Ontario (hybrid — some in-person, some remote)
Type: Volunteer

Organization: People Against Littering (P.A.L.)

About P.A.L.

People Against Littering is a Brampton-based nonprofit with a simple but powerful mission to make Brampton the first litter-free city in Canada and inspire other communities to follow. Founded six years ago, P.A.L. is a movement of everyday people who believe a cleaner city is worth rolling up their sleeves for. We are rebuilding our organizational capacity right now, and we need the right people to help us grow.

About This Role

Right now, everything volunteer-related lands on our founder. That's not sustainable, and it's not fair to the mission. We need a Volunteer Coordinator who can take that load off and help build the foundation P.A.L. needs to move forward.

This is a ground-floor opportunity. You won't be slotting into a polished system, you'll be helping build one. If that kind of challenge appeals to you, read on.

What You'll Do

  • Recruit volunteers for a wide range of roles, from cleanup crew leaders to social media support to website management
  • Match volunteers to the right positions based on their skills and availability
  • Onboard new volunteers and make sure they feel genuinely welcomed and valued
  • Stay in regular contact with active volunteers so they remain engaged
  • Work directly with P.A.L.'s founder to understand current priorities and gaps
  • Help get basic organizational systems up and running, intake forms, volunteer tracking, communications flow

A Note on Our Immediate Priorities

Before we can fully organize our volunteers, we need some foundational systems in place, particularly our WordPress website and newsletter setup. If you have a background in tech, web management, or systems thinking, that's a real bonus right now. We're not looking for a professional developer — just someone comfortable enough to help get things off the ground, or to recruit someone who can.

What We're Looking For

  • Organized, reliable, and someone who follows through
  • Good communication skills — phone, email, and in person
  • A genuine belief that community matters and that small actions add up
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, community organizing, HR, or a similar field is a plus, not a requirement
  • Tech-savvy candidates are especially encouraged to apply
  • Comfortable working in a small, informal, mission-driven team

Time Commitment

Flexible.  We'll work around your schedule. Roughly 5 to 10 hours per week to start, with room to grow into the role as P.A.L. grows.

Why Volunteer With P.A.L.

You'll work alongside a founder recognized as Brampton's Citizen of the Year, with additional awards for community service spanning several years. A park in Brampton has been named in his honour. This is hands-on, meaningful work with impact you can actually see not a binder-on-a-shelf kind of organization.
