We are currently looking to hire a Maintenance Worker. This person will work with our front line and administration teams to help with regular cleaning and upkeep of our program and office spaces. 

About the Depot Community Food Centre: Founded in 1986, The Depot Community Food Centre is a community-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with its community to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG) and the surrounding areas in a manner that ensures dignity, engagement and the development of human potential. We offer many food-based programs to support the food security and healthy eating habits of youth, families and individuals. Our activities are built around four main pillars: share, grow, cook and mobilize.

About the position: The Depot is a bustling ecosystem with roughly 35 staff, 30 volunteers, and approximately 250 participants through our spaces daily. Though all the staff and volunteers take part in keeping our spaces tidy and clean, we seek to hire a maintenance worker who will be responsible for deeper cleaning and upkeep of our outdoor and indoor spaces including the bathrooms, floors, windows, office kitchen, waste disposal,  recycling and more. 

The Depot is working towards creating an organizational culture based on dignity, respect, care and openness, where anti-oppression and anti-racism are living and embodied practices. To achieve this, we aim to recruit a team that is representative of NDG’s diverse identities and lived experiences in order for our work to be by and for our communities

Responsibilities / tasks :

  • Daily cleaning tasks include: bathrooms at the program space (all surfaces, toilets and floors, and ensuring adequate stock of supplies), sweeping and mopping, emptying garbage, properly sorting and storing recycling, and upkeep of our compost bins, snow shoveling

  • Weekly tasks include: scrubbing tiled areas, vacuuming, dusting all surfaces, cleaning the mop sink and area, soaking and switching out mop heads, cleaning the myriad of handles around our spaces, ensuring garbage recycling and compost bins are taken out, and cleaned, cleaning and restocking the office kitchen and bathrooms, sweeping, shoveling and maintenance of outdoor areas of program space and office

  • Monthly tasks include: washing windows and glass walls at both the program space and office, dusting window sills and surfaces at the office, 

  • Occasional tasks include: trips to the ecocentre, deep cleaning in collaboration with The Depot teams

Specific skills and experience required:

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse community environment

  • Hard working and efficient

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Good communication skills in French and or English

  • Capable of carrying out multiple tasks and prioritizing accordingly

  • Able to work physically for several hours at a time and comfort lifting up to 50 lbs regularly

Working conditions:

● Salary: $ 20/ hour

● 28 hours / week

  • Monday 12-8PM

  • Wednesday 12-8PM

  • Thursday 12-8PM

  • Friday 12-8PM

● 1 year contract with possibility of renewal

●Vacation pay of 6%, extra vacations at the end of the year, Health days. Positive work environment with motivated staff and strong work ethic
