PROGRAM INTERN, Community Liaison Worker 

 

The Yellow Door (YD) is an intergenerational organization running programs and activities to bring youth and seniors together in the promotion of mental and physical health and the prevention of urban social isolation amongst all ages. 

 

Under the supervision of the Generations Program Coordinator and Wellness Group Program Coordinator, the Program Intern will be responsible for assisting with certain aspects of the YD’s Generations Program and Wellness Group Program, including, but not limited to: 

 

Generations Program 

 

  • Assist in coordinating current volunteer services for seniors; assess new members and reassess existing members. 

  • Refer and inform seniors and volunteers of appropriate community resources 

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, training and orientation. 

  • Support the implementation of our volunteer portal to enhance volunteer engagement and retention. 

  • Complete data entry to help maintain a functional volunteer and membership database. 

  • Work closely with the Program Coordinator & Program Assistant; collaborate with other staff members, as needed. 

 

Wellness Group Program  

 

  • Help to facilitate online and in-person community activities, as needed, including knitting, art, yoga, book club, film club, community hour, etc. 

  • Provide support for volunteers, as required. 

  • Assist with the facilitation of outings and other WG activities, as needed 

 

Program Outreach:  

  • Assist with the drafting and distribution of the YD’s monthly activities calendar (online & print), flyers, and posters throughout our territory 

  • Assist with investigating and implementing creative ways to increase community engagement, to reach isolated seniors, potential volunteers, and new participants 

  • Conduct presentations to key stakeholders and community partners on YD services and programs 

 

Other Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of any special events and activities   

  • Attend all program meetings and work collaboratively with the YD team  

  • Actively communicate with Program Coordinators and Executive Director   

 

Qualifications: 

  • CEGEP diploma or undergraduate courses/degree in a related discipline, e.g. gerontology, social services, communications, leisure studies, non-profit management, etc,  

  • Experience working as part of a small team 

  • Experience working with seniors and/or outreach services for vulnerable populations, an asset  

  • Fluent spoken and written French and English is essential.  

  • Fluent understanding of the Windows environment and MS Office software eg Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publishing is required.   

 

Conditions: 

 

The position is 35 hours per week for 8 weeks starting July 7th (minimum 80% of weekly hours in person). The hourly wage is set at $18.10.  

 

The candidate must meet the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Intern program as follows:  

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment 

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and, 

  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
