About the Role 

CPAWS National Office is hiring a Marketing Advisor. Reporting to the National Associate Director Communications, the successful candidate will play a key role by developing strategic marketing programs for the national communications team and is responsible for creating and publishing content that supports organizational programs, identifies and grows audiences, and builds awareness of CPAWS and its work. Their work will drive CPAWS supporters to take action that furthers the mission of the organization and the achievement of its strategic objectives.

Aligning marketing concepts with CPAWS’ strategic communications, the Marketing Advisor will take an evidence-based approach to their work—leveraging market research and social listening to understand what messaging resonates with target audiences, identify the channels they’re most engaged with, and implement tactics that effectively mobilize them.

We’re seeking someone who is digitally savvy with multimedia platforms, has strong organization skills to manage multiple priorities, follows up consistently with different teams or chapters, and has a collaborative mindset that thrives in a team environment.

Responsibilities

1)     Marketing Strategy & Implementation (40%):

  • Develop, maintain and implement multi-media marketing campaigns that increase visibility for CPAWS with various audience segments.
  • Increase retention of existing CPAWS supporters through effective engagement and dynamic content. 
  • Measure and analyze KPIs from marketing campaigns to inform overall communications strategy.
  • Working with the Associate Director, develop an annual communications plan to position CPAWS as a thought leader for nature protection in Canada.
  • Identify mis- and dis- information and support the development of relevant communications strategies to counter impact on our mission. 

2)     Audience Engagement & Content Creation (40%):

  • Develop, maintain and implement a social media and social listening strategy to accelerate audience and donor growth and increase audience engagement.

i. Build a quarterly implementation plan and implement in collaboration with the National Communications Coordinator.

ii. Design and manage social media content calendar with engagement from the National Communications Coordinator, including organic content calendars to support marketing campaigns.

iii. Publish engaging social media across CPAWS channels:

 - Amplify relevant chapter and partner content.

 - Monitor online conversations and respond to comment and inquiries.

 - Conduct daily content review on channels to identify and highlight relevant stories and news.

 - Track and monitor published content for robust reporting, leveraging insights to inform the next quarterly implementation plan.

  • Create and publish a variety of traditional and digital communications materials including media releases and advisories, blogs, e-blasts, action and donation campaigns, reports, infographics, web copy.
  • Develop and maintain a quarterly communications content calendar in collaboration with chapters and Conservation teams.
  • Track engagement KPIs and develop strategies to increase public mobilization.

3)     Market Research & Project Planning (10%):

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program staff, development, and Chapters to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Assist with the development of audience segment message testing and implementation.
  • Maintain knowledge on channel best practices, keep apprised of trends.
  • Support the planning and promotion of events including shooting and gathering content for post-event products.

4)     Stakeholder Engagement (10%):

  • Maintain relationships with chapters to identify opportunities for collaboration, amplify campaigns that have national relevancy and curate content for CPAWS blog or newsletter.
  • Maintain relationships with marketing and digital media agencies and related contractors to increase the effectiveness of CPAWS’ marketing campaigns.

Accountability and Authority

The National Marketing Advisor will work remotely or from Ottawa, and report to the National Associate Director Communications.  They will work closely with the other teams at our National Office, while supporting CPAWS chapter staff and members of the National Board of Trustees across the country. 

All staff are accountable through the staff structure to the National Executive Director for the planning and delivery of programs and services for which they are responsible. The National Executive Director is responsible for staff management and development, and the effectiveness of programs and services within the priorities and budgets approved by the Board.

The Human Resources Policy guides the National Executive Director in the day-to-day management of the organization. All CPAWS staff will ensure they have read, understand and adhere to the policy manual.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Essential Assets              
  • Bilingualism in English and French (written and spoken).            
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equitable, relevant experience in Marketing, or related field.           
  •  At least five years’ marketing experience; not-for-profit experience.           
  •  Highly-experienced with social listening and social media strategy and implementation, including content creation and delivery on multi-media platforms.          
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with good attention to detail.            
  • Strong project management skills and experience coordinating work and collaborating across several teams.              
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.              
  • Managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.

 Nice to Have

  • Experience with graphic design and layout tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop or Canva.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365. 
  • Experience uploading content on WordPress.
  • Keen interest in nature conservation.
