Arts Administrator and Communications Assistant: CSJ program


The Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA) is offering a paid Arts Administrator & Communications Assistant position. The chosen candidate will help support the preparation, administration, and delivery of CAPACOA's numerous programs, as well as supporting the ongoing knowledge sharing, and daily activities of the organization. 

 

This role will provide the intern with an opportunity to learn more about the sector's aspirations and efforts towards sustainability, accessibility, and change. The intern will also grow their own skills and knowledge, preparing them for a career in the non-profit sector.

 

Hourly wage: $18.00/hour

Hours per week: 35 (adaptable to support the student’s schooling schedule)

Length of contract: 8 weeks  

Relationship to employer: Employee 

Location: Remote / Work from home / Canada

Anticipated Start Date: June 22nd (flexible)

This government funded program gives youth across Canada paid summer work experience related to their field of study. Current Canadian youth & those with refugee status, ages 15-30, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with social media development and management.

  • Working with the communications team to develop and execute marketing timelines, newsletters, and other related communications tasks.

  • Assisting in editing and writing of articles and content, increasing engagement.

  • Supporting website, Database, and Google workspace redesign and management. 

  • Crowdsourcing or outsourcing compelling photos and information for various platforms.

  • Working together to develop projects and communicating with colleagues about ongoing projects (which includes weekly team meetings).

  • Developing and uploading content to conference event software/app.

  • Preparing and dispersing programmes, participant lists and event documents.

  • Assisting with the creation of new programs that focus on audience interests and needs.

  • Planning meetings, tracking "game plans" and preparing ordered task outlines

  • Assisting with third party outreach and implementing gathering logistics and contracts

  • Providing onsite support of live gatherings and activities, as needed.

  • Representing CAPACOA in a professional manner when attending all activities.

  • Assisting the Program Manager and Executive Director with project reports and grants

  • Tracking expenses and paperwork, to help with budgets and bookkeeping efforts.

 

Other tasks/projects may include: 

  • Supporting town hall sessions, board meetings, and the AGM

  • Helping with other CAPACOA projects

  • Helping the board and committee meetings

  • Assisting with the arts community job board.

General Requirements

  • Preferred level of education: post secondary.

  • Advanced communication skills, verbal and written in one official language.

  • Basic to intermediate understanding of at least one second language (written, spoken and read), with an interest in advancing their second language.

  • Confident oral presentation skills.

  • Detail oriented.

  • An adaptive nature as a team player: ready to lead, follow, listen, reflect, or support

  • Experience working with (or willingness to learn) digital communications tools, including email, websites, and standard office software  (ex.Microsoft Office and Google Suite.)

  • Ability to set priorities and to take initiative.

  • An understanding (or willingness to learn) of challenges facing our sector, and under-recognized community members.

  • An interest in a future career within the performing arts and/or not-for-profit sector.

  • Following the interview / offer: Provide proof of CSJ program eligibility.

CSJ Requirements

To be eligible for this CSJ funded position, applicants must:

  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 2.

    • Please note: International students, i.e. persons using a Student VISA or work permit, are not eligible for the funding.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
